Applications Wanted for El Dorado Co Grand Jury

by Placerville Newswire / Mar 20, 2016 / comments

The annual opportunity for citizens to take part in the El Dorado County Grand Jury by submitting their names for possible nomination has arrived.

“The Grand Jury is an excellent vehicle for committed men and women to keep government accountable to all of our County’s citizens,” county officials said in a news release.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years of age, have resided in the county for at least one year at the time of the swearing-in date, and cannot hold an elected office.

Judges of the Superior Court shall select names from those submitted, as well as other nominees and currently seated grand jurors who may be held over to be put into the jury pool.

In all, 19 jurors will be selected in a random drawing from this pool, according to the county.

Qualified candidates must apply by April 15; final selection will take place in late June, and potential jurors are expected to be present for the “draw.”

Jurors serve for a period of one year — July 1 to June 30. A required training session provided by the California Grand Jurors Association will take place June 30 and July 1 in Placerville.

The El Dorado County Grand Jury acts as an investigative body to ensure that county, special district and city governments are being effectively run. The Grand Jury is not a criminal jury for trial.
