Dunne on wine: Award Winning Amador County Barbera made with grapes from El Dorado County

by Placerville Newswire / Mar 03, 2016 / comments

Four gold-medal barberas were made with grapes from El Dorado County, three bore the appellation “Sierra Foothills.”  Barbera is a red Italian wine grape variety that, as of 2000, was the third most-planted red grape variety in Italy. It produces good yields and is known for deep color, low tannins and high levels of acid.

Though the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition in Sonoma County is a strictly all-American show, this year it drew 98 barbera entries.
