Paddle Out this weekend at Gathering of the Tribes

The Gathering of the Tribes takes place Saturday, June 25, and is a temporary replacement for Race the Lake of the Sky, which has attracted hundreds of competitive paddlers to El Dorado Beach for the past four years.  Stand-up paddlers will have to wait until 2017 for Race the Lake of the Sky to return, but they’ll still have a chance to come together and celebrate this weekend.

South Lake Tahoe Man Rescued from Monkey Face - wrong descent and ran out of rope

Two California men climbing the popular Monkey Face formation at Smith Rock State Park became stranded when they chose a wrong descent route and one ran out of rope halfway down Wednesday afternoon, prompting a rescue operation that took until after midnight to conclude, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Major Improvements For South Lake Tahoe Airport

The South Lake Tahoe City Council has given their approval for improvements to the lobby at Lake Tahoe Airport.

With 3-2 vote, a contract was awarded to DML Construction, Inc. of Verdi to complete over $620,000 in upgrades to the heating and ventilation system, making the lobby ADA compliant, and generally sprucing up the place with new doors, windows, and carpeting.

They’ll also be adding a fireplace, and artwork from local artists.

Fatal Car Collision in El Dorado Hills occupied by Rosevillians

On June 20 at approximately 11:45 p.m. Juan Melgarujpan, 20, from Roseville was driving a 2007 Honda Civic at a high rate of speed westbound on Beatty Drive in El Dorado Hills when the vehicle hit the north side curb, left the roadway and struck the tree, CHP officials report. Melgarujpan suffered major injuries, including a broken back. Dionicio was the front seat passenger. The driver allowed his vehicle to hit the north side curb on Beatty Drive, which cause the vehicle to leave the roadway. Upon leaving the roadway, the Honda Civic subsequently struck a nearby tree.
