Rainbow Trout Stocked in El Dorado County Reservoirs

For the third consecutive summer, SMUD and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), are stocking three Sierra reservoirs with rainbow trout. The stocking will run through August with at least 25,000 pounds of fish stocked into Union Valley, Ice House and Loon Lake reservoirs in El Dorado County. The amount of fish stocked can number as high as 50,000 pounds in a given year, depending on matched stocking by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

2017 has been an epic winter in Northern California with snow totals over 500 inches at one popular ski resort near South Lake Tahoe. So with that in mind, heading into the Rubicon Trail has been out of the question. In fact the trail was closed past the intertie were the trail from Wentworth Springs joins the trail coming from Loon Lake due to an ice dam. Well thanks to the volunteers and the Rubicon Trail Foundation, the ice dam was cleared and the trail opened after Memorial weekend.

South Lake Tahoe Police Department executed a search warrant at the home of former Lake Tahoe Humane Society Executive Director Niki Congero last Thursday, June 1, as the investigation into her alleged embezzlement continues.

Congero was fired from her position in March after the nonprofit's board of directors was notified by its bank of irregular activity.

Inaugural Gold Country Half to be run on June 11 - The Sacramento Running Association, organizers of the California International Marathon, has partnered with the El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce to bring a new half marathon to El Dorado Hills. The inaugural Gold Country Half event will be held on Sunday, June 11.

The Gold Country Half will feature the half marathon distance along with a 5k and kids’ 1k run. All distances will start and finish at El Dorado Hills Town Center and will be run entirely in beautiful El Dorado County.
