The El Dorado County Youth Commission met with El Dorado County Office of Education Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ed Manansala, members of EDCOE leadership, and members of the County Board of Supervisors on Monday, May 15. The students held their annual pasta dinner with the dignitaries to share the focus of their work this school year and to get feedback from Supervisors and EDCOE representatives, which jointly sponsor and support the Youth Commission.

The Tahoe Bike Challenge returns from June 1 to 14, bringing back the friendly competition to see who can replace the most car trips with trips by bicycle. Every year for two weeks, instead of driving, hundreds of Tahoe residents and visitors ride their bikes to work, school, and for fun. Participants in the Bike Challenge track their miles and join the friendly competition.

Wildfire Awareness Month: Remembering Angora

This June is wildfire awareness month at Lake Tahoe. It also marks the 10th anniversary of the Angora Fire, the most destructive wildland fire in memory at Tahoe.
 
An illegal and abandoned campfire started the Angora Fire on June 24, 2007. The fire quickly spread toward Meyers, stoked by strong winds and forests overgrown with hazardous fuels. In a few days, the fire burned 3,100 acres and destroyed 254 homes.
