Trailhead Fire Creates Hazards at Abandoned Mines

Across the Mother Lode are hundreds of mines -- some still undiscovered. About 12 mines in Eldorado National Forest may be compromised.

By Vicki Gonzalez -- The U.S. Forest Service is working on abandoned mines that have become safety hazards as a result of the Trailhead Fire.

"This is our time with the stuff burned away we can see things like these mine shafts, and typically we'll discover new ones after a fire," said Kristi Schroeder with the Forest Service in El Dorado County.

By Joel Rosenbaum -- The Fairfield Police Department assisted detectives from South Lake Tahoe this morning in the arrest of four suspects, including one man wanted in connection to a robbery and homicide.

Andrew Adams, 25, of Suisun City is suspected of being involved in a “drug deal-turned robbery murder” on Jan. 30 where 40-year-old Dennis Wright was shot to death in the parking lot of the Beverly Lodge in South Lake Tahoe.

Santa Rosa Press Democrat -- Joshua Ruoff, 30, of South Lake Tahoe was booked into the Mendocino County Jail at 11:40 p.m. 

A man suspected of killing a fellow worker at a remote Mendocino County marijuana farm and then fleeing the state has been brought back to California after losing his four-month bid to fight extradition, Sheriff’s officials said.

Ruoff was booked on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, records show.
