130-MPH High-Speed Chase ends near Kyburz with Injuries

KYBURZ (CBS13) – Authorities say a driver led officers on a high-speed chase in the Sierra on Wednesday.

The chase began near South Lake Tahoe. California Highway Patrol officers tried to pull a 2006 BMW for speeding on Highway 50, but the driver would not pull over. The chase reached speeds of 100 mph.

CHP says the patrol car suffered some sort of vehicle problems and had to stop the chase near Kyburz. However, Placerville CHP units soon spotted the BMW near Pacific House. The driver pulled over, but then took off again as officers walked up to the car.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE – A 27-year-old woman from San Francisco was hit by a car while attempting to run across Hwy. 89 on Sept. 5.

A 55-year-old driver was heading northbound and did not see the woman run across the five lanes near Sonney’s BBQ Shack.

Sierra Prospector Finds Giant Gold Nugget That Could Fetch $70K

JAMESTOWN, Tuolumne County (CBS) — There’s gold in ‘dem der hills!

A prospector in the Sierra found a gold nugget the size of a T-bone steak.

Now local businesses in the town of Jamestown, about 60 east of Stockton, are banking on a modern gold rush for the Labor Day weekend.

It was Tuesday afternoon when the owner of the Jamestown Hotel got word his friend had struck gold. He was expecting to see a nugget, but he was amazed at what he saw.

“Oh my God,” said Charlie Morgan when he first saw how big it was. “I thought that’s a lucky guy!”

On 8/27/16 at 12:24 am, Correctional Officers working in the El Dorado County Jail found inmate Dennis Renk (39 years old) unresponsive in his cell.  Renk has been in custody since November 6th, 2015, when he was arrested on charges of homicide after an altercation in Camino.

Renk was immediately treated by Correctional Officers, Jail Medical Staff, and transferred into the care of El Dorado County Fire Paramedics and he was transported to Marshall Hospital for further treatment.
