Blue Shield Eliminates 90 Jobs in El Dorado Hills

Blue Shield of California said Friday it has eliminated 140 jobs in El Dorado Hills and Rancho Cordova as it reconfigures its operations in the greater Sacramento area.

The cutbacks mean the health insurer employs around 1,950 workers combined at the two offices. Blue Shield also employs 30 workers at a small office in Sacramento.

Spokesman Sean Barry said the cutbacks are “part cost and part strategy” as the company continues to realign its operations. Barry said 90 jobs have been eliminated in El Dorado Hills. Of those, 50 jobs are being relocated to a Blue Shield office in Lodi. At the same time...
