October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month across the nation. The Center for Violence-Free Relationships, a nonprofit that serves victims of domestic violence in El Dorado County, invites the public to attend an open house to learn about domestic violence and how The Center helps victims in our community.

In a single day, domestic violence shelters across California serve almost 5,800 women and children. The Center has an 18-bed safe house that provided 3527 nights of shelter last year.

“Lots of folks have questions about why victims stay in a relationship where they are being abused and they have questions about what we do here at The Center," stated Julie Sena, Director of Development for The Center for Violence-Free Relationships. "We want to open our doors and invite the public to hear from former clients about how domestic violence has affected their lives and the lives of their children and share information about our programs and services."

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The Center will host an open house on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm with a short program at 6:00 pm.

"We'll have a panel discussion with former clients, office tours, client artwork, light refreshments, and a chance to talk with program staff and our board of directors about our programs and services," stated Ms. Sena.

There will also be artwork on display created by students from The Center's healthy relationships program called TEACH, as well as an art project where the public will be invited to share words of encourgement with clients of The Center.

The Center has served the local community for over 35 years and is recognized at the local, state and national level for its innovative, groundbreaking programs, and its ability to provide essential services to families in need.
