The mother of a woman killed by a blast from an assault weapon brought to a Carmichael apartment party bitterly condemned the brothers convicted in her daughter’s death at the pair’s sentencing Friday in Sacramento.

“What were her last words when you watched her die? Please tell me,” Teresa Ledezma asked Kenyatta Brown, who wore a pained look and wiped away tears, as she stood before a Sacramento courtroom packed with the families of the victim, Joslynn Sovenski, as well as Brown and his brother Keyon.

“I hope you suffer. I hope God punishes you,” Ledezma continued as wracking sobs were heard from both sides of the gallery. “I hope you suffer for the rest of your life because that’s where you belong, behind bars or six feet under.”

South Lake Tahoe man receives maximum sentences

A South Lake Tahoe man received the maximum sentence of 34 months on charges of uttering a forged instrument and possession of a controlled substance.

John R. Liska, 37, was arrested on Aug. 29 for residential burglary with unlawful entry, uttering of a forged instrument, synthetic controlled substance possession, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic needle, trafficking and three counts of possession of marijuana.

At 8:30 p.m. officers responded to a call from Lakeside Inn in Stateline in reference to a subject detained for attempting to use a fraudulent check. Deputies made contact with Liska on scene, who admitted trying to use the check and knowing it was fraudulent. Liska was arrested. ...
