El Dorado Hills, CA - El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson today announced the 9th Annual edition of the Snowball Heroes and Helpers Shopping Event benefiting at-risk children in El Dorado County will be held this Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the Target in El Dorado Hills Town Center from 6:00 am until 9:30 am.  This heartwarming event is one of the region's largest and longest running holiday charity outreach programs, helping many deserving children build positive relationships with first responders.

This year's Snowball Heroes and Helpers Event will provide more than 200 local at-risk children $200 each to go holiday shopping with local first responders.  This gives an opportunity for these at-risk children to have a positive interaction with local law enforcement and fire personnel.

"Unfortunately, many at-risk children's exposure to first responders comes about during stressful, negative life events," said District Attorney Vern Pierson.  "We started the Snowball event to provide these children with an opportunity to interact with law enforcement and fire personnel in a positive, safe environment.  This interaction serves to help change the course of a child's life and helps provide these children with some needed items for their home, a positive interaction with law enforcement and a Christmas gift."

Since its inception, the primary sponsors have been Ken and Lani Steers of Freight Solution Providers, Waste Connections/El Dorado Disposal, Big Brothers Big Sisters, CASA El Dorado, El Dorado Hills Rotary, and Foothill Area Rapid Transit.  Numerous other entities have supported this effort including most county law enforcement, County Auditor Joe Harn, El Dorado Hills Fire, Criminal Attorney's Association, and countless volunteers.

Since the first Snowball event in 2008, more than half a million dollars has directly benefited more than local 1,000 children.

"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men."
