Dear neighbors, let me start by saying that I am writing this as an individual and not as the president of the Georgetown Divide Public Utility District Board of Directors.

I believe that most residents of this community are tired of the unprofessional infighting on the board. They expect us to behave professionally and respectfully toward one another and the staff.  They want us to make fact based decisions after vigorous discussion in which we make our points and then to vote as we see fit. We then have to accept those decisions and to move on without endlessly revisiting issues already decided.

A recent Grand Jury report clearly states how damaging this activity has been to the GDPUD and offers a roadmap to fix our broken agency. A roadmap saying exactly what I’ve been talking to you about for the last three years.

Our most important responsibility is the long term viability of the district. Quite honestly, we have been left a mess. It is going to require great fortitude and a willingness to put the well-being of the district above a desire to be reelected when voting on the issues necessary to heal this organization. We need stability in leadership to accomplish the necessary long-term projects that will ensure reliable water for our children and grandchildren.

I for one will not take the bait and respond to the non-issues in Mr. Carl Hoelscher’s letter because I know that that’s not what you want from me. You aren’t looking for us to fight, you are looking for us to find solutions and that is what I and I believe the rest of the board is offering you.

One thing that I certainly agree with Carl on, it will be your decision in 2018 whether to take a step backward or to continue to move our district and thereby our community forward.
