Early Flight in EDC was not for the weak hearted

Via local historian Guy Nixon.  Here is the USFS picture of the airplane that crashed up at Loon Lake in 1921.  The pilot returned, fixed his plane, and took off flying it on to Reno!

When he wrecked it, he walked over the Rubicon Trail to Tahoe to get something to eat, then went home to Reno, got parts and horses, and then returned to Loon Lake and fixed his plane!  He then managed to have enough of a runway to take off.

Many think it was down near the far end there on the granite where todays Loon lake is rather shallow.
