El Dorado County Community Development Agency Employee Injured While Performing Road Rehabilitation Work

(Placerville, CA) – On Tuesday, May 17, 2016, while performing road rehabilitation work in the El Dorado Hills Business Park, an El Dorado County Community Development Agency employee was injured after being caught in between two County vehicles. Following the incident, the employee was immediately transported to a hospital for medical care. 

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to our colleague and friend that was injured,” said El Dorado County Community Development Agency Director Steve Pedretti.

Rená Rush Gyarmati said her husband was is still in ICU on saturday in Critical, but stable condition with nother surgery later in the day.  She added, "Thank you for your prayers."

Nationwide, about 700 people are killed each year in work zone crashes.  

Before OSHA was created 43 years ago, an estimated 14,000 workers were killed on the job every year. Today, workplaces are much safer and healthier, going from 38 fatal injuries a day to 12. But there is still much work to be done.

"Making a living shouldn't have to cost you your life. Workplace fatalities, injuries, and illnesses are preventable. Safe jobs happen because employers make the choice to fulfill their responsibilities and protect their workers." Said Dr. David Michaels, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health.

The investigation into this accident is continuing and the County is cooperating with officials from the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) said Creighton Avila of the El Dorado County Community Development Agency.
