An El Dorado man suspected of molesting a preschool-age girl also allegedly broke into a vehicle to retrieve video evidence of himself committing the crime, Santa Cruz Police spokeswoman Joyce Blaschke said.

Timothy Ritchison, 47, was charged with lewd and lascivious acts with a minor and booked into El Dorado County Jail. He was extradited to Santa Cruz County Jail, where he was being held on $250,000 bail.

According to Blaschke, the victim’s mother confronted Ritchison after she discovered video evidence of the crimes.

She then fled in her car to a friend’s residence to call the police. While the mother and child were in the home, Ritchison allegedly shattered her window, stole the evidence and drove away.

The location of the incident and age of the victims are not being disclosed to protect their identities. The suspect was known and trusted by the family.

Santa Cruz Police worked with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department during the investigation. Ritchison was arrested at his El Dorado residence.

Ritchison confessed to the molestation, and gave multiple statements consistent with the victim’s allegations, Blaschke said.

Detectives are continuing to sort through evidence to determine if there are additional victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Santa Cruz Police Department Investigations Unit at 420-5820.
