2017 Academic Decathlon - Oak Ridge Takes Title and Pondo Takes Top Individual

Teams from El Dorado, Oak Ridge, Ponderosa, Union Mine, Golden Sierra, and Nevada County’s Gidotti Early College High Schools competed for the opportunity to represent El Dorado County in the 2017 State Academic Decathlon Competition.

Interviews, speeches, and essay competitions were held on February 1st and teams wrapped up a full day of testing by competing in the Super Quiz on February 4th. Congratulations to Oak Ridge High School who scored 39,554.00 points to win the 2017 El Dorado County Decathlon! 

All of our team members performed exceptionally well, achieved personal and team goals, and a few students were at the top of the entire competition:
 - Top Decathlete - Miranda Dodd, Ponderosa High School
 - Top Alternate - Chris Tharratt, Oak Ridge High School 
 - Top Speech - Jenna Breedlove, Oak Ridge High School 
 - Top Essay - Walker Sundquist, Union Mine High School

District Jazz Night

The El Dorado Union High School District’s (EDUHSD) Annual District Jazz Night was held on Wednesday, February 15th at Union Mine High School. The annual free concert highlighted the performances of four jazz ensembles within the District. Bands from El Dorado, Oak Ridge, Ponderosa, and Union Mine High Schools participated and gave their audience quite an impressive presentation. Great job to all of the bands on their outstanding performances!

JAMZ National Competition

The JAMZ All Star & School Nationals Competition was held in Las Vegas on February 17-19, 2017 at the Orleans Arena.

Congratulations to Ponderosa High School’s Competitive Cheer Team for placing 3rd in the Nation for Varsity Co-Ed Competitive Cheer! Your dedication, commitment, hard work, spirit, and teamwork really shined through during your performance. Thank you to Coach Justine Jonutz for doing an outstanding job leading this great group of students to victory. Way to go everyone!

2017 California All State Bands

Out of over 1,900 band auditions from around the state, four of our EDUHSD students were accepted into the 2017 California All State Bands. Oak Ridge High School (ORHS) student, Joseph Diaz, was the 1st chair trombone in the All-State Wind Symphony. ORHS students Jeff Anderson (trumpet) and Nathan Culcasi (trombone) were accepted into the All-State Symphonic Band. Ponderosa High School (PHS) student, Andrew Maloney (oboe), was accepted into the All-State Concert Band. A special thank you to Santiago Sabado (PHS Director of Bands) and Paul Varoff (ORHS Director of Bands) for your leadership and guidance along the way. Congratulations to all honorees!
