Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance Sees Grand Return of the legendary Thunderbird

by Placerville Newswire / Jul 23, 2017 / comments

After a four-year hiatus, the legendary Thunderbird returns this year to the Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance August 11th - 12th. America’s most recognizable, and possibly the most valuable, wooden speedboat turns 77 and will be the centerpiece of one the most acclaimed and prestigious wooden boat shows in North America.

The 55’ double-planked mahogany and brushed stainless steel cruiser is powered with V-12 Allison P-38 Lightening aircraft engines with a top speed of over 70 mph! During the golden years, the Thunderbird Yacht hosted the likes of Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra racing along Lake Tahoe’s shoreline.

With an extra five feet of water, you'll be able to view these antique boats at eye level from Obexer's Marina in Homewood, CA, with majestic Lake Tahoe serving as one of Mother Nature's most supreme backdrops. This is the year you won't want to miss.
