Month-old fire flares up in El Dorado National Forest, now 30 acres


SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KOLO) - The Table Fire has burned at least 30 acres in the El Dorado National Forest as of Monday, but fire crews are on it now and have likely stopped the spread, U.S. Forest Service public information officer Kristi Schroeder said.

It is about 3 miles northeast of Ice House Reservoir.

The fire was actually started a month ago on Sept. 8 by lightning. The Forest Service monitored it and did not try to put it out, allowing it to do a natural prescribed burn, Schroeder said. It remained about a half-acre until winds on Sunday helped it spread, Schroeder said. By noon Monday it reached 15 acres before growing to 30 acres by late Monday afternoon.
