Sutton sentenced to over 22 years in Prison for Child Molestation

A judgement and sentencing hearing ended with a somber Phillip Scot Sutton, 47, of Placerville, being sentenced to 22 years and 8 months, the maximum sentence, for sexual acts with a minor.

Sutton was arrested on suspicion of molestation in July, one day after the victim reported the incident to the Placerville Police Department. Sutton plead guilty to those charges.

A former firefighter from Placerville who pleaded guilty to starting an 80-acre wildfire in El Dorado County has been sentenced to five years in prison.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that 33-year-old Benjamin Cunha pleaded guilty in federal court in October to lighting the 2007 Mine Fire while a volunteer firefighter in Diamond Springs.

U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner said Cunha was setting the fires in an attempt to earn overtime pay and impress his peers...
