Elizabeth Jane Faria, Cameron Park, California 
March 20, 1934 - September 17, 2017 

Elizabeth "Bette" Jane Faria passed away peacefully, after a short illness, in Cameron Park on Sept 17, 2017. Bette was preceded in passing by her beloved husband of 65 years, Tony Faria, in December 2016. She is the loving mother of Sheryl, Diane and her husband, Jo, Steven and his wife Gena, and Karen. She is the sister of Helen, Thomas and Gary, the grandmother of David, Michael, Christopher, Allison and Emily and great grandmother of Emma, Nathan, Logan and Katelyn.

Bette was born in Sunol, CA on March 20, 1934. She and Tony attended Washington High School in Fremont, CA. After Tony's stint in the Navy, they moved back to the Bay Area in 1954 to raise their family. Long-time members of St. Simon's Parish in Los Altos, CA, Bette and Tony moved with their 2 youngest to El Dorado County in 1977. She retired from Bank of America with over 20 years of service in 1989. 

Bette and Tony were bridge players as well as active members of the Sierra Squares Square Dance Club of Shingle Springs. She graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in Human Services in 1993, and volunteered as a child advocate with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and at the local elementary school to help children learn to read. They enjoyed extensive RV traveling in retirement. Most recently they lived at Ponte Palmero in Cameron Park.

A memorial service for Bette will be scheduled at a later date. Donations in Bette's name may be made to CASA El Dorado at 347 Main St, Placerville, CA 95667. We will always carry her loving memory in our hearts. Arrangements entrusted to Chapel of the Pines, Placerville, CA.

Assault With A Deadly Weapon - suspects arrested after five-hour standoff in El Dorado County

On September 16, 2017, at approximately 8:00 pm, El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on Toyan drive in Diamond Springs for a reported assault.  

The victim reported that several people came to his house and began a confrontation.  A physical fight ensued and the victim was stabbed. The suspects, Anthony Marquez and Richard Almeda, fled the scene in a vehicle prior to deputies arrival.

French Fire burning 120 acres in El Dorado County

A fire burning in El Dorado County south of Shingle Springs has grown to 120 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Cal Fire spokesman Brice Bennett said the fire, burning off French Creek Road near Bonnetti Road, was 20 percent contained as of 9 p.m. Crews were “making good progress” after initially encountering access issues responding to the fire in an area of foothills with no roads, Bennett said.

No structures were being threatened, Bennett said. The cause of the fire was unclear and under investigation...
