Oakland men arrested for Sierra Foothills burglaries

PLACERVILLE, CA (KOLO)-- Three Oakland men and a teen have been arrested as suspects in a string of burglaries in the Sierra Foothills and the Sacramento area, authorities announced Wednesday.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said there were 27 commercial burglaries in the spree. They believe Miguel Angel Chamizo, 32, was linked to at least 14 of them. Also arrested were Kevin Gilkey, 23, Matthew Jonathan Carnegie, 33, and a 16-year-old.

The burglaries were happening over several months. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said typically two or three men, dressed in hoodies and long pants and wearing gloves, targeted gas stations between midnight and 5 a.m. to steal cigarettes. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said these “crews” got up to $12,000 worth of cigarettes in a single burglary.

There were four burglaries, one robbery and one attempted burglary in El Dorado County.

So a task force from El Dorado, Placer and Sacramento counties and from Sacramento, Rocklin, Galt and Auburn police departments began investigating the cases.
