EVENT: Avalanche Warning

ALERT: The following message is transmitted at the request of the U.S. Forest Service Sierra Avalanche Center.

The Sierra Avalanche Center in Truckee has Issued a backcountry Avalanche Warning.

* Timing...In effect from Thu 10:00 PST to Fri 07:00 PST.

* Affected Area...Central Sierra Nevada Mountains between Yuba Pass (Hwy 49) on the north and Ebbetts pass (Hwy 4) on the south, including the greater Lake Tahoe area.

* Avalanche Danger...Increasing avalanche danger will reach HIGH danger today and tonight in the mountains.

* Reason/Impacts...High intensity snowfall and strong winds are creating dangerous avalanche conditions. This is also loading and stressing an existing weak layer in the snowpack in near treeline and below treeline areas. Natural and human-triggered avalanches are expected. Some avalanches may be large and destructive.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. This includes steep slopes below treeline.
