(PLACERVILLE, CA) - District 4 Supervisor Michael Ranalli announced that he will hold a Town Hall meeting in Georgetown to provide an update on state and county efforts in response to the county's tree mortality crisis and discuss the community's interest in revitalizing the Georgetown Fire Safe Council.

The meeting will be held Thursday, June 8th at 7:00 pm at the Georgetown Community Center.

'More than 177,000 conifer trees are dead or dying in El Dorado County due to the years of extreme drought and the impact of the bark beetle infestation,' Ranalli said. 'This tree mortality crisis threatens public safety, infrastructure and private properties throughout the central and southern Sierra Nevada region. 'We are an active member of the State Tree Mortality Task Force and work cooperatively with local, state and federal partners on resource sharing and planning cost-efficient projects that remove hazardous trees and protect the public.'

Representatives from the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council, the Georgetown Fire Protection District and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) will also attend this meeting to provide information and answer questions.

'Local fire safe councils are valuable partners not only in efforts to address tree mortality throughout our county, but also because they can engage and educate a community about projects that help safeguard communities from fire and other emergencies,' said Ranalli. 'I encourage the community to attend this meeting, learn more about the Georgetown Fire Safe Council and take advantage of the expertise around the room.'
