The $400 million, proposed casino project would feature a gaming floor with 2,000 slot machines, 84 gaming tables, a 12-story, 302-room hotel, a fitness area and spa, an outdoor pool, a 30,000-square-foot convention space/banquet area and fine dining restaurants.

The tribe is also considering an outdoor venue for concerts and other events.

In a previous arrangement, prior to selecting Elk Grove as its preferred location last month, the tribe filed a land-into-trust application for a 282-acre site, just north of Galt and within that city’s sphere of influence.

During last week’s meeting, Wilton Rancheria Tribal Chair Raymond “Chuckie” Hitchcock described the project and gave the community a first-time view of artistic images showing how the place is projected to appear upon its completion. Earlier artistic images with a different appearance were prepared for the Galt area site...

Among the earlier questions posed pertained to the topic of a groundbreaking for the casino project, which began its planning in 2013.

“That’s a tricky question,” he said. “This is a federal process. We have to get land into trust before we can even put a shovel into the ground. Once we get land into trust, most likely we might have some lawsuit against us. So, three to five years is a good estimation to put a shovel in the ground.”...

“The $400 million is an investment that’s going to be backed by Boyd Gaming,” Hitchcock replied. “They’re going to be our investment partner and we’ll work together.”...

Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis responded to a question regarding whether he was in support of the project.

“At this point, I’m not taking a position,” he said. “I’m here to listen like you all.”...

“Will we be sharing patrons?” he asked. “Absolutely. Is there enough to go around? Absolutely. How many Starbucks are here in Elk Grove for instance?”...
