Placerville, Calif.<\/em> \u2014 The El Dorado County Sheriff\u2019s Office (EDSO) will begin its next Citizens Academy<\/strong> on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026<\/strong>, offering local residents a chance to learn how law enforcement works \u2014 from behind-the-scenes facility tours to ride-alongs with deputies.<\/p>\n

The free, 13-week program<\/strong> meets every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.<\/strong> at the EDSO Public Safety Facility. Each session features a different instructor who will cover a range of law enforcement topics, including use of force, investigations, patrol operations, special units, and more. Participants also receive guided tours of EDSO facilities, equipment demonstrations, and direct engagement with the agency\u2019s various units.<\/p>\n

One of the most sought-after elements of the program is an opportunity for a ride-along<\/strong> with a deputy, giving attendees a firsthand perspective of patrol work. According to EDSO, that experiential component helps build mutual understanding and trust between the community and its law enforcement agency.<\/p>\n

\u201cClass fills up fast, so enroll today,\u201d says EDSO. The academy is open to adults aged 18 and over<\/strong>, though exceptions may apply in some cases. Interested residents are encouraged to apply promptly, as spaces are limited.<\/p>\n
