(Dec 30, 2025)<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"816\" data-end=\"1056\"><strong data-start=\"816\" data-end=\"839\">PLACERVILLE, Calif.<\/strong> \u2014 El Dorado County residents who regularly attend or follow Board of Supervisors meetings will see notable changes in how public comment is handled starting Jan. 6, 2026, following a unanimous board vote in November.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1058\" data-end=\"1399\">On Nov. 18, the Board of Supervisors approved updates to its regular meeting procedures aimed at improving efficiency and making it easier for the public to plan participation. The changes were adopted unanimously and are detailed in the county\u2019s official meeting record, <strong data-start=\"1330\" data-end=\"1373\">Calendar Legistar file 25-1864, Item 21<\/strong>, under the Board minutes.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1401\" data-end=\"1579\">County officials say the revisions are designed to streamline lengthy meetings while preserving multiple opportunities for residents to provide input\u2014both in person and remotely.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1581\" data-end=\"1828\">\n<p data-start=\"1583\" data-end=\"1828\">\u201cThis new structure provides greater efficiency and consideration of the public\u2019s time,\u201d the county stated in its announcement, noting that residents will no longer need to wait hours for individual agenda items to be called in order to comment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 data-start=\"1830\" data-end=\"1849\">What\u2019s Changing<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1851\" data-end=\"1876\">Under the new procedures:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1878\" data-end=\"2848\">\n<li data-start=\"1878\" data-end=\"2063\">\n<p data-start=\"1880\" data-end=\"2063\">The <strong data-start=\"1884\" data-end=\"1916\">Chief Administrative Officer<\/strong> will announce any revisions to the published agenda at the start of the meeting, eliminating the need for a formal board vote to adopt the agenda.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2064\" data-end=\"2310\">\n<p data-start=\"2066\" data-end=\"2310\">The <strong data-start=\"2070\" data-end=\"2090\">published agenda<\/strong> will more clearly outline all ways the public can view, attend, and participate in meetings. The Clerk of the Board will read this information into the record at the beginning of the meeting and again during Open Forum.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2311\" data-end=\"2514\">\n<p data-start=\"2313\" data-end=\"2514\"><strong data-start=\"2313\" data-end=\"2355\">Public comment on Closed Session items<\/strong> will now be taken at the same time as public comment on the Consent Calendar, reducing repeated interruptions as the board moves in and out of Closed Session.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2515\" data-end=\"2689\">\n<p data-start=\"2517\" data-end=\"2689\"><strong data-start=\"2517\" data-end=\"2565\">Public comment on all remaining agenda items<\/strong>\u2014excluding noticed public hearings\u2014will be taken in a single comment period following consideration of the Consent Calendar.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2690\" data-end=\"2848\">\n<p data-start=\"2692\" data-end=\"2848\"><strong data-start=\"2692\" data-end=\"2706\">Open Forum<\/strong> will continue to be held at <strong data-start=\"2735\" data-end=\"2745\">1 p.m.<\/strong>, allowing members of the public three minutes to address the board on topics not listed on the agenda.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2850\" data-end=\"3088\">County officials emphasized that the consolidated comment periods are intended to allow residents to arrive in the morning and provide comments on multiple items at once, rather than waiting throughout the day for individual agenda items.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3090\" data-end=\"3127\">Written Comments Still Encouraged<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3129\" data-end=\"3358\">As in the past, the county stressed that <strong data-start=\"3170\" data-end=\"3265\">email remains the most reliable way to ensure comments are entered into the official record<\/strong>. Residents may submit written comments on any agenda item by emailing <strong data-start=\"3336\" data-end=\"3357\"><a class=\"decorated-link cursor-pointer\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"3338\" data-end=\"3355\">edc.cob@edcgov.us<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3360\" data-end=\"3608\">The county also continues to offer multiple ways to follow and participate in meetings, including attending in person at the Board Chambers, joining via Zoom, calling in by phone, watching the live stream on YouTube, or submitting written comments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3610\" data-end=\"3799\">Officials encourage residents who are not already subscribed to the county\u2019s <strong data-start=\"3687\" data-end=\"3702\">GovDelivery<\/strong> email notification system to sign up to stay informed about agenda items and procedural updates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Big changes are coming to how public comment works at El Dorado County Board meetings.
