Buying the building would provide long-term stability, protect the co-op from rising commercial rents, and allow future investments in infrastructure, programs and local food partnerships, according to the organization.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1333\" data-end=\"1595\">\u201cThis is about more than real estate,\u201d the Placerville Food Co-op said in a statement shared with members. \u201cOwning our building means we can plan for the long term, serve our community with confidence, and ensure this co-op remains here for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1597\" data-end=\"1939\">The effort comes at a time when many independent grocers and cooperatives across California are facing pressure from increasing costs, consolidation in the grocery industry, and competition from large chains.
