{"id":11250,"date":"2026-01-13T09:01:56","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T18:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/inedc.com\/24\/?p=11250"},"modified":"2026-01-13T09:01:56","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T18:01:56","slug":"el-dorado-county-seeks-volunteers-for-federally-required-2026-homelessness-count","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/inedc.com\/24\/government\/el-dorado-county-seeks-volunteers-for-federally-required-2026-homelessness-count\/","title":{"rendered":"El Dorado County Seeks Volunteers for Federally Required 2026 Homelessness Count"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"606\" data-end=\"884\"><strong data-start=\"606\" data-end=\"634\">EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif.<\/strong> \u2014 El Dorado County officials are calling on residents to volunteer for the 2026 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, a federally required, one-day census of people experiencing homelessness that helps determine future resources and funding for local services.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"886\" data-end=\"1131\">The count is scheduled for the morning of <strong data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"955\">Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026<\/strong>, from <strong data-start=\"962\" data-end=\"983\">6 a.m. to 11 a.m.<\/strong>, and will take place across the county\u2019s <strong data-start=\"1025\" data-end=\"1073\">Western Slope and the South Lake Tahoe Basin<\/strong>, according to the county\u2019s Housing and Homelessness Team.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1133\" data-end=\"1466\">Mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the PIT Count is conducted nationwide every two years to measure the number of sheltered and unsheltered individuals experiencing homelessness on a single night. The data is used by local, state and federal agencies to assess needs, track trends and allocate funding.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1468\" data-end=\"1784\">\u201cWe need community participation to make sure we\u2019re getting the most accurate picture possible,\u201d the county\u2019s Housing and Homelessness Team said in a public call for volunteers. \u201cThe information gathered directly affects our ability to advocate for resources and funding to address homelessness in El Dorado County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1786\" data-end=\"2069\">No prior experience is required to participate. Volunteers will receive training and will work in pairs or small groups to conduct real-time surveys with individuals experiencing homelessness. County officials say the approach helps ensure safety, accuracy and respectful engagement.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2071\" data-end=\"2285\">Residents interested in volunteering or learning more can sign up online at <a href=\"http:\/\/eldorado.pointintime.info\"><strong data-start=\"2147\" data-end=\"2176\">eldorado.pointintime.info<\/strong><\/a>.
