PLACERVILLE \u2014 Retired John D\u2019Agostini<\/span><\/span> has formally endorsed Sean M. Coppola<\/span><\/span> in the upcoming June 2, 2026 election for El Dorado County Treasurer-Tax Collector, adding a high-profile local name to Coppola\u2019s campaign as ballots are set to be mailed May 4.<\/p>\n D\u2019Agostini, who served three terms as El Dorado County Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator from 2011 until his retirement on Dec. 31, 2022, praised Coppola\u2019s financial expertise and understanding of county operations.<\/p>\n \u201cI am extremely proud to have the endorsement of retired El Dorado County Sheriff John D\u2019Agostini. Thank you, John, for your support and your continued commitment to our County,\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Coppola said in a campaign statement.<\/p>\n D\u2019Agostini added:<\/p>\n \u201cSean is the right person for the job. He has the experience and understands the intricacies and importance of the County\u2019s portfolio and how it is a multiplier of your hard-earned tax dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n D\u2019Agostini is a fourth-generation El Dorado County resident whose tenure as sheriff was marked by agency modernization and capital expansion. Before his election as sheriff, he spent nearly 30 years in law enforcement, beginning his career in 1993 with the Amador County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n His most visible legacy is the $68 million Public Safety Facility in Placerville, completed in 2019 and later renamed in his honor in August 2023 as the John D\u2019Agostini Public Safety Facility<\/span><\/span>. The complex consolidated previously scattered operations into a centralized headquarters.<\/p>\n D\u2019Agostini also established the department\u2019s guiding principle,<\/p>\n \u201cA Modern Approach to Traditional Law Enforcement Values,\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n emphasizing both crime enforcement and victim care. Since retiring, he has remained active in public policy discussions and community initiatives.<\/p>\n Coppola was appointed Treasurer-Tax Collector by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors in December 2025 to fill the unexpired term of retiring Treasurer Karen Coleman. His term began Dec. 27, 2025, and runs through Jan. 2, 2027. He is now seeking a full four-year term in the June 2026 election.<\/p>\n Prior to his appointment, Coppola served approximately two years as assistant treasurer-tax collector. He holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in finance from the University of Nevada, Reno, and is a Certified Treasury Professional. Before entering county government, he worked as an accountant and controller for a Folsom-based property management firm.<\/p>\n As Treasurer-Tax Collector, Coppola oversees county banking, investments, property and business tax collections, and licensing functions. The office manages an investment pool of roughly $1.1 billion in public funds, according to county documents.<\/p>\n In recent months, Coppola has hosted community meet-and-greet events, including a February gathering at Moonraker Millhouse, to discuss fiscal priorities and modernization efforts. His platform emphasizes continuity, fiscal integrity and expanded technology services, including online billing systems aimed at improving efficiency for residents.<\/p>\n Ballots for the June 2, 2026 election will be mailed beginning May 4. The Treasurer-Tax Collector position is countywide and oversees core financial operations affecting public services, infrastructure funding and tax administration throughout El Dorado County.<\/p>\n D\u2019Agostini\u2019s endorsement comes as candidates work to secure voter support ahead of the primary.
