{"id":11823,"date":"2026-03-10T20:11:42","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T04:11:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/inedc.com\/24\/?p=11823"},"modified":"2026-03-10T20:19:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T04:19:16","slug":"pleasant-valley-students-present-science-camp-experience-to-gold-oak-school-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/inedc.com\/24\/events\/pleasant-valley-students-present-science-camp-experience-to-gold-oak-school-board\/","title":{"rendered":"Pleasant Valley Students Present Science Camp Experience to Gold Oak School Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 data-section-id=\"1dhvuol\" data-start=\"787\" data-end=\"871\">Pleasant Valley Students Share Science Camp Experience with Gold Oak School Board<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"873\" data-end=\"1080\">Two students from <strong data-start=\"891\" data-end=\"932\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Pleasant Valley Middle School<\/span><\/span><\/strong> recently stepped into the spotlight, becoming the first students to present before the <strong data-start=\"1020\" data-end=\"1061\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Gold Oak Union School District<\/span><\/span><\/strong> Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1082\" data-end=\"1299\">Sixth graders Emmy Emmons and Hazel Gillihan delivered a presentation at the district\u2019s February board meeting, sharing their experiences from last fall\u2019s Science Camp at the <strong data-start=\"1257\" data-end=\"1298\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Sly Park Environmental Education Center<\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1301\" data-end=\"1531\">The students worked together to develop a slide presentation and speech describing their weeklong outdoor education program in September. Their presentation focused on personal growth, teamwork and hands-on environmental learning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1533\" data-end=\"1809\">Science Camp, a long-standing educational program in El Dorado County, gives students the opportunity to study science in a natural setting. Activities often include forest ecology, wildlife observation and environmental stewardship lessons that complement classroom learning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1811\" data-end=\"1978\">During their presentation, Emmons and Gillihan described how the experience helped them face personal challenges while forming new friendships and building confidence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1980\" data-end=\"2093\">Pleasant Valley sixth-grade teacher Jessica Trumble said the experience has had a lasting impact on the students.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2095\" data-end=\"2458\">\n<p data-start=\"2097\" data-end=\"2458\">\u201cI cannot express how proud and excited I am to see the growth of all our sixth graders this past year\u2014especially Emmy and Hazel,\u201d Trumble said. \u201cScience Camp helped them overcome fears, create lasting memories, and experience meaningful learning outside the classroom. It made a difference for them, and now they are helping inspire next year\u2019s sixth graders.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"2460\" data-end=\"2754\">District officials say the presentation also highlights the broader impact of outdoor education programs offered through Gold Oak Union School District.
