The indictment came after a months-long investigation into the May 3, 2025 collision on Green Valley Road near Silva Valley Parkway.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1481\" data-end=\"1809\">According to investigators, the crash occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. when Wright was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger eastbound. Authorities said the vehicle drifted off the roadway, struck a raised asphalt curb, then re-entered traffic, crossed the double yellow lines, and collided head-on with a westbound 2023 Toyota Camry.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1811\" data-end=\"1912\">Both vehicles were traveling at an estimated 55 miles per hour at the time of impact, officials said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1914\" data-end=\"2004\">The driver of the Camry, identified as Joan Allison, 84, was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2006\" data-end=\"2174\">Wright and two young passengers\u2014a 7-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl\u2014were injured in the crash and transported to <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">UC Davis Medical Center<\/span><\/span> for treatment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2176\" data-end=\"2359\">The case was investigated by the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team of the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">California Highway Patrol<\/span><\/span>, culminating in a 326-page report submitted to prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2361\" data-end=\"2630\">Based on those findings, the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">El Dorado County <a href=\"http:\/\/inedc.com\/24\/crime\/grand-jury-indicts-el-dorado-hills-driver-on-murder-charge-in-2025-fatal-dui-crash\/\">District Attorney&#8217;s Office<\/a><\/span><\/span> filed charges including murder\u2014commonly referred to as a \u201cWatson murder\u201d in California DUI cases\u2014gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury, and two counts of child endangerment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2632\" data-end=\"2876\">District Attorney <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Vern Pierson<\/span><\/span> described the crash as \u201c<strong>a devastating and entirely preventable tragedy<\/strong>,\u201d emphasizing that the charges reflect what prosecutors allege was a conscious decision to drive under the influence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2878\" data-end=\"3063\">Under California law, a Watson murder charge may be pursued when a driver is accused of acting with implied malice\u2014knowingly engaging in dangerous conduct with disregard for human life.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3065\" data-end=\"3211\">Wright remains presumed innocent as the case proceeds through the court system.
