The Gathering at the Switchboard Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"168\" data-end=\"529\">Sing, Muse, of an eve where words took wing,<br data-start=\"212\" data-end=\"215\" \/>In Placerville town, beneath spring\u2019s soft fling.<br data-start=\"264\" data-end=\"267\" \/>Where twilight gathered the curious and wise<br data-start=\"311\" data-end=\"314\" \/>\u2019Neath Switchboard rafters and gold-rusted skies.<br data-start=\"363\" data-end=\"366\" \/>From six till eight, the time was set\u2014<br data-start=\"404\" data-end=\"407\" \/>A free-born feast of alphabet!<br data-start=\"437\" data-end=\"440\" \/>Where art met voice and verse did climb<br data-start=\"479\" data-end=\"482\" \/>The ladders of old, through rhythm and rhyme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"531\" data-end=\"754\">At 525 on Main Street fair,<br data-start=\"558\" data-end=\"561\" \/>The folk arrived, with open air.<br data-start=\"593\" data-end=\"596\" \/>Their hearts were tuned to song and page,<br data-start=\"637\" data-end=\"640\" \/>As poets strode the humble stage.<br data-start=\"673\" data-end=\"676\" \/>Refreshments passed, no coin did part\u2014<br data-start=\"714\" data-end=\"717\" \/>Just honest hands and hungry heart.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"756\" data-end=\"759\" \/>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"761\" data-end=\"796\"><strong data-start=\"761\" data-end=\"796\">II. Moira of the Elephant\u2019s Eye<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"798\" data-end=\"1032\">First came Moira, Magneson named,<br data-start=\"831\" data-end=\"834\" \/>A woman of words, by wilderness claimed.<br data-start=\"874\" data-end=\"877\" \/>Her book, <em data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"915\">In the Eye of the Elephant<\/em>, born<br data-start=\"921\" data-end=\"924\" \/>From April\u2019s second, in poetry sworn.<br data-start=\"961\" data-end=\"964\" \/>Sixteen Rivers gave it sail\u2014<br data-start=\"992\" data-end=\"995\" \/>A press where poets share the tale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1034\" data-end=\"1259\">Lyric and narrative, wild and free,<br data-start=\"1069\" data-end=\"1072\" \/>Her stanzas sang of beast and tree.<br data-start=\"1107\" data-end=\"1110\" \/>Of elk that walked through dreaming dew,<br data-start=\"1150\" data-end=\"1153\" \/>Of fox that vanished from mortal view.<br data-start=\"1191\" data-end=\"1194\" \/>Experimental echoes rang,<br data-start=\"1219\" data-end=\"1222\" \/>With nature\u2019s breath in every pang.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1261\" data-end=\"1417\">She read aloud with iron grace,<br data-start=\"1292\" data-end=\"1295\" \/>A stillness swept the gathered space.<br data-start=\"1332\" data-end=\"1335\" \/>And those who came with silent thought<br data-start=\"1373\" data-end=\"1376\" \/>Felt in her lines the world she sought.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"1419\" data-end=\"1422\" \/>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1424\" data-end=\"1458\"><strong data-start=\"1424\" data-end=\"1458\">III. Susan of the River\u2019s Risk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1460\" data-end=\"1697\">Then stood Susan, Norman bold,<br data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1493\" \/>Her memoir whispered rivers cold.<br data-start=\"1526\" data-end=\"1529\" \/><em data-start=\"1529\" data-end=\"1539\">Tis Risk<\/em>, her tale, not yet unsealed,<br data-start=\"1568\" data-end=\"1571\" \/>But promised truth when all&#8217;s revealed.<br data-start=\"1610\" data-end=\"1613\" \/>From She Writes Press, the tale shall leap<br data-start=\"1655\" data-end=\"1658\" \/>In June, when snow-fed torrents weep.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1699\" data-end=\"1947\">A champion cast on whitewater\u2019s foam,<br data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1739\" \/>She danced with danger far from home.<br data-start=\"1776\" data-end=\"1779\" \/>In kayaks carved for mountain streams,<br data-start=\"1817\" data-end=\"1820\" \/>She chased her fate and forged her dreams.<br data-start=\"1862\" data-end=\"1865\" \/>Through Forest Service trails she ran,<br data-start=\"1903\" data-end=\"1906\" \/>A steward of earth, both beast and man.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1949\" data-end=\"2185\">Yet deeper still the waters ran\u2014<br data-start=\"1981\" data-end=\"1984\" \/>She braved alone what few began.<br data-start=\"2016\" data-end=\"2019\" \/>To motherhood through heart\u2019s adoption,<br data-start=\"2058\" data-end=\"2061\" \/>Her story swelled in love\u2019s eruption.<br data-start=\"2098\" data-end=\"2101\" \/>She read with voice both firm and kind,<br data-start=\"2140\" data-end=\"2143\" \/>Each word a spark, each breath designed.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"2187\" data-end=\"2190\" \/>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2192\" data-end=\"2225\"><strong data-start=\"2192\" data-end=\"2225\">IV. The Legacy of the Evening<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2227\" data-end=\"2371\">O, El Dorado!
