Cameron Park, Calif. \u2014 In a significant advancement for general aviation safety, Cameron Park Airport (O61) has unveiled an upgraded Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS-3), officially certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as of March 21, 2025. This enhancement, funded through a grassroots campaign led by the non-profit Cameron Park Airport Foundation, also includes the installation of real-time weather cameras, collectively valued at nearly $70,000.\u200b<\/p>\n
The new AWOS-3 system provides comprehensive weather data, including sky conditions, visibility, and precipitation type, aligning with the FAA’s METAR reporting standards. This integration allows pilots to access up-to-date weather information directly from the airport, facilitating better flight planning and improved safety. Additionally, the real-time camera feeds enable pilots to visually assess field conditions before departure or arrival, enhancing situational awareness.\u200b<\/p>\n
