EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — A former high school band teacher with decades of service in local school districts is facing multiple felony charges involving the alleged sexual abuse of a minor, according to court filings and law enforcement reports.

Paul Varoff, who taught in El Dorado County-area schools for approximately 30 years, has been charged with several felony counts, including allegations of oral copulation and sexual penetration involving a minor. The alleged conduct is reported to have occurred over an extended period and in multiple locations, raising concerns about the scope of potential misconduct.

Sacramento-area attorney Joseph Weinberger confirmed in a public statement that he represents one of the alleged victims in the case and is urging others who may have been affected to come forward.

“These allegations are deeply disturbing,” Weinberger said. “They involve a person who was entrusted with the safety, development, and well-being of young people in our community. When that trust is violated, the harm is profound and lasting.”

According to the statement, Varoff’s role as a band teacher gave him significant access to students during school hours as well as extracurricular activities — a factor investigators often examine in cases involving abuse by authority figures.

Weinberger said the length of Varoff’s career and the nature of the allegations raise the possibility that additional victims may exist but have not yet reported their experiences.

“If you are a victim, a parent, a sibling, or a friend of someone who may have been harmed, I want you to know this: you are not alone, and your voice matters,” Weinberger said. “Coming forward is never easy, but it is often the first step toward justice.”

The case underscores broader concerns about safeguarding students and ensuring accountability within educational institutions. School districts typically implement policies designed to prevent abuse, including background checks, reporting protocols, and staff training, though enforcement and oversight vary.

Officials have not publicly disclosed further details about the timeline of the alleged incidents or the specific school sites involved. As of publication, court proceedings are ongoing, and Varoff is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Individuals with information related to the case are encouraged to contact The Weinberger Law Firm at (916) 357-6767 or via email at joe@weinbergerlaw.net. The firm states that all communications will be handled confidentially.

“No one should carry this burden alone,” Weinberger added. “We are committed to seeking justice for every victim and to ensuring that those responsible are held fully accountable under the law.”
