Thomas Leigh Heflin (Tom), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and esteemed community member, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on February 2, 1943, in Los Angeles, Tom spent his formative years in Placerville and at Harris Family Farm in Pollock Pines, embracing the beauty of El Dorado County. He attended Placerville Grammar School, Pollock Pines Elementary School, and graduated from El Dorado High School in the class of 1960.

Tom’s academic journey led him to San Jose State and eventually to the University of Oregon, where he earned a Ph.D. in Finance. He dedicated his career to teaching, sharing his expertise as a professor at institutions including the University of Montana, Cal State Bakersfield, the University of Nevada, Reno, and Sacramento State University. His passion for finance and education inspired countless students throughout his tenure.

In his early years, Tom served in the Peace Corps, working on community development projects in India. This transformative experience instilled in him a lifelong commitment to service and a profound sense of empathy for others. Alongside his academic pursuits, Tom nurtured his love for farming. In 1977, he founded Rainbow Orchards, a beloved local establishment known for its vibrant produce and community involvement.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Christa Campbell, who stood beside him through life’s many chapters. He was the proud father of three sons and their spouses: West (Carolyn), Sage (Kacee), and Harrison (Lauren). His seven grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to his life. Tom also cherished his close bond with his siblings, Jane Harris, Pam Olivarez Harris, and Bill Harris.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at Rainbow Orchards on September 6 at 4 p.m. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the legacy of a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Snowline Hospice in Tom’s name.
