l Dorado County, Calif. — The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to residents about a persistent telephone scam targeting community members. Scammers are impersonating sheriff’s officials, claiming individuals have missed court appearances or have active warrants, and demanding immediate payment of fines.

“Law enforcement will never call someone about a warrant for an arrest, never call about alleged missed jury duty, and never ask for money over the phone,” stated the Sheriff’s Office. “They will not give you a courtesy call prior to showing up.”

Residents are urged to verify any suspicious calls by contacting the Sheriff’s Office directly. Additionally, it’s important to inform friends and family, especially those not active on social media, about this scam to prevent further victimization.
