Recent Arrests and Operations

On March 11, 2025, a collaborative operation involving the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) resulted in the arrest of eight individuals across seven residential locations in South Lake Tahoe. DCSO Undersheriff Ron Elges stated, “All subjects were identified in joint narcotics investigations, were registered sex offenders, or had outstanding warrants for arrest.” Deportation proceedings have been initiated against these individuals due to their assessed threat to the community.

In a related development, “Operation Bear Trap,” a multi-year investigation targeting violent crime, illegal firearms trafficking, and narcotics distribution, culminated in notable convictions. Oscar Arreola Nunez was convicted on 16 felony counts, including the sale of multiple machine guns and narcotics near South Tahoe Middle School. He received a seven-year sentence, with four years suspended, and is currently on probation after serving 1.5 years.
