A jury has convicted Carl W. Cacconie of multiple counts of child molestation, concluding a harrowing case that rocked a quiet Placerville neighborhood. On July 17, 2025, following a week-long trial, the jury returned a unanimous verdict on six felony counts of committing lewd acts on a child under 14 years of age.

According to the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, the abuse spanned a period of several months and came to light after the young victim disclosed details to a trusted adult, prompting an investigation by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and Child Protective Services. The case hinged on the courageous testimony of the child and corroborating forensic interviews.

“The bravery shown by the victim in this case is extraordinary,”

said El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson in a prepared statement.

“Thanks to their courage and the tireless work of our investigators, justice has been served.”

Prosecutors presented evidence that included recorded statements, expert testimony, and witness accounts that collectively persuaded the jury of Cacconie’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Cacconie, who has been held in custody since his arrest in 2024, showed little emotion as the verdict was read in El Dorado County Superior Court.

Under California Penal Code §288(a), each count carries a potential prison sentence of 3 to 8 years, but given the multiple counts and aggravating factors, Cacconie may face a de facto life sentence. Sentencing is scheduled for August 19, 2025, where Judge Michael Peterson will determine the final outcome.

The District Attorney’s Office has encouraged anyone with further information or additional allegations against Cacconie to come forward.
