Kevin Kiley<\/a>, the Republican congressman whose Sacramento-area seat was reshaped by California\u2019s contentious mid-decade redistricting effort, confirmed Monday that he intends to run for re-election in 2026 \u2014 but not in all of the newly drawn districts that now cover portions of his current territory.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"965\" data-end=\"1480\">In a statement shared with local media and supporters this week, Kiley said his existing Third Congressional District has been \u201csliced into six pieces,\u201d now labeled new Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Under California\u2019s recently approved redistricting plan \u2014 set in motion by state lawmakers and voters via Proposition 50 \u2014 the current map that favored Republicans has been altered significantly, complicating plans for incumbents like <a href=\"http:\/\/inedc.com\/26\/government\/congressman-kevin-kiley-advocates-for-caldor-fire-survivors-urges-fema-aid-for-el-dorado-county\/\">Kiley<\/a> headed into the 2026 election cycle.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1482\" data-end=\"1762\">\u201cAfter many conversations with constituents, I have determined it will not be District 4,\u201d Kiley said in the update, referencing one of the six newly drawn districts that pulls parts of Placer and Yuba counties into a new configuration stretching toward California\u2019s wine country.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1764\" data-end=\"2068\"><a href=\"http:\/\/inedc.com\/26\/crime\/rep-kiley-and-el-dorado-da-unite-to-roll-back-prop-47-with-new-initiative\/\">Kiley\u2019s<\/a> disclosure narrows his path forward but stops short of specifying which of the remaining five districts he will choose to contest in 2026. The decision comes as the filing deadline for next year\u2019s primary elections \u2014 currently set for March 6 \u2014 draws closer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2070\" data-end=\"2481\">The congressman said his decision was \u201ctruly a painful\u201d one because of deep ties to communities in what is now <a href=\"https:\/\/kiley.house.gov\/\">District 4<\/a>. \u201cI love these communities and have represented some of them for nine years, between Congress and the Legislature,\u201d he said. \u201cI want to emphasize that I will still represent all of my current constituents for the next year. That measure allows lawmakers greater influence over congressional maps \u2014 a move backed by Gov. Gavin Newsom \u2014 but pitted state Democrats against Republican lawmakers who warned the plan would displace GOP incumbents and reshape political battlegrounds statewide.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3020\" data-end=\"3448\">Kiley has been one of the most vocal Republican critics of the redistricting push, calling it \u201cfraud\u201d and accusing Democratic leaders of undermining California\u2019s independent redistricting commission. He also introduced federal legislation aimed at banning mid-decade redistricting nationally, arguing that shifting district lines outside the usual census cycle harms voters\u2019 representation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3450\" data-end=\"3739\">\u201cWe\u2019ve got to protect representative government,\u201d Kiley said previously in a 2025 press conference on the issue. \u201cI don\u2019t think gerrymandering is a good thing.
