OAKLAND \u2014 Alameda County prosecutors have charged an El Dorado Hills man with sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl after the two met through a mutual acquaintance, court records<\/p>\n
Jitendra Berera, 56, was charged with statutory rape, committing a lewd act on a child and oral copulation of a person under 16, court records show. He was arrested on July 17, released from jail and charged on July 24, court records show. He remains out of custody.<\/p>\n
The alleged crimes were discovered when the victim\u2019s boyfriend overheard a lewd conversation between her and Berera, and notified her mother, who then called police, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Investigators reportedly reviewed the girl\u2019s phone records and chat logs and found evidence Berera paid her $100 for a sexual encounter, and that she told him he was a minor. They also found messages telling her \u201cthat he wanted to see her, indicating his desire to have sexual relations with her again,\u201d a police investigator wrote in court filings.<\/p>\n
When Berera was arrested, he reportedly acknowledged knowing the girl but denied knowing she was underage. Police say the two had multiple encounters dating back to last year, including at a hotel in the East Bay. She reportedly knew him as \u201cJason\u201d but he was saved in her phone as \u201cFoot Freak,\u201d according to authorities.<\/p>\n
