EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) is calling on residents across the county to help spread holiday cheer through its 2025 holiday toy drive, Toys From the Bearcat, set for Monday, Dec. 1 at the Food Bank of El Dorado County in Cameron Park. InEDC+2InEDC+2

The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Food Bank warehouse at 4550 Business Drive, Cameron Park. Residents are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages — toys that will be collected and later distributed by EDSO deputies to families in need across the county. InEDC+1

For those unable to attend the evening event, a drive‑through toy drop‑off opportunity will be available the same morning, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the same location. Find Health Clinics+1

“It’s one of our favorite traditions and a powerful reminder of what community truly is all about,” said Jeff Leikauf, Sheriff of El Dorado County, urging residents to participate. InEDC

Organizers note that demand for holiday support has grown in recent years, as rising housing costs and inflation have put pressure on many working families. InEDC+1

The program is a collaboration between EDSO, the Food Bank of El Dorado County, and local community partners — including the Shingle Springs/Cameron Park Chamber of Commerce. InEDC+1

Residents who wish to donate, volunteer, or learn more about eligibility for holiday assistance can contact the Food Bank at (530) 621‑9950, or the Sheriff’s Office at (530) 621‑5655. InEDC+1

For many residents in our rural, widely dispersed county — where affordability and access can be challenging — the “Toys From the Bearcat” drive offers more than just a toy. It offers hope, dignity, and a chance for children to feel the magic of the holidays. By pairing toy donations with existing food‑distribution networks, the program ensures gifts go to families already facing economic hardship.

Moreover, the drive underscores a broader commitment by the Sheriff’s Office to community service, beyond law enforcement — showing up as partners in care, goodwill, and local solidarity.

For many children and families, especially those who might otherwise go without, this could be the difference between a quiet December night and a Christmas morning bright with possibility.

What Residents Can Do Now

  • Donate a new, unwrapped toy and bring it to the Food Bank warehouse in Cameron Park on Dec. 1 (5:30 – 8:00 p.m.) or drop off during the morning drive-thru (7 a.m.–12 p.m.).

  • Keep an eye on the Food Bank and Sheriff’s Office social media for any last‑minute updates on additional drop‑off locations or volunteer needs. InEDC+1

  • Consider sponsoring a toy‑collection barrel at local businesses or community centers to expand reach — especially in outlying towns.
