Authorities identified the injured deputies as Deputy J. Stillman and Deputy C. Reimche. Officials did not immediately specify which deputy had been discharged but said both continue to recover. A Pacific Gas and Electric Company contract worker who sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident has also been treated and released.

The suspected gunman, identified by authorities as 66-year-old Steven Carter, remains hospitalized in stable condition and in custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

Meanwhile, residents across El Dorado County reported a strong law enforcement presence along Highway 50 overpasses Monday afternoon, prompting questions on local social media. The activity coincided with a procession escorting the released deputy home from the hospital, a gesture often used by first responders to honor injured officers.

“Yes, procession for the officers shot coming home from the hospital,”

one community member wrote online, reflecting widespread public support for the injured deputies.

The shooting, which occurred in Camino, remains under investigation. Officials have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident, including what prompted the confrontation.

The sheriff’s office has not indicated when further updates will be provided but continues to ask the public for patience as investigators work to establish a full timeline.
