El Dorado County, CA (Feb 29, 2024) – El Dorado County’s Department of Transportation faces setbacks as weather impacts the delivery of 1,100 cubic yards of concrete for Mosquito Bridge Replacement.

In a move aimed at ensuring the structural integrity of the Mosquito Road Bridge replacement project, El Dorado County’s Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced a revised schedule for the closure of Mosquito Road. The closure, originally planned for Friday, March 15, 2024, at 10:00 pm through Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 5:00 pm, has been delayed due to adverse weather conditions affecting the delivery of 1,100 cubic yards of concrete.

Closure at the gates

This crucial construction phase involves the delivery and placement of concrete for the Pier 3 footing on the north side of the project. The decision to close Mosquito Road is rooted in the necessity to prioritize the safety of both motorists and construction workers.

The concrete delivery, amounting to 120 truckloads, will occur at an estimated rate of 10 truckloads departing and returning per hour from the concrete batch plant. The closure is strategically planned to reduce conflicts between concrete trucks, pumps, and workers during nighttime operations.

A designated detour route via Rock Creek Road has been established, and motorists are advised to anticipate delays and plan for additional travel time. The concrete truck route will traverse from the batch plant near Finnon Lake, through Rock Creek Road to Mosquito Cut-off Road, and down Mosquito Road to reach the Pier 3 location at the 3rd switchback on the north side of the river.

During the closure, Rock Creek Road will serve as the primary access route, and motorists are urged to exercise caution, particularly at the intersections of Rock Creek Road/Mosquito Cutoff Road and Mosquito Cutoff Road/Mosquito Road during the nighttime concrete operations.

To ensure smooth traffic flow, flaggers will be stationed strategically above the gates, providing adequate turn-around areas and coordinating with Emergency Services if required. The County expresses gratitude for the cooperation and patience of motorists and apologizes for any inconvenience resulting from this necessary closure.

For inquiries related to this construction project, individuals are encouraged to contact the County’s Transportation main line at (530) 621-5900, selecting Option 3 for Engineering. The Department remains committed to keeping the public informed as the project progresses.
