South Lake Tahoe — When doors open for the new school year Aug. 25, Meyers Elementary will have a new principal who is already a familiar face. Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) has appointed Heather Hart, a 25-year district educator and administrator, to lead the K–5 campus in Meyers. The first day of school is listed for Aug. 25 on LTUSD’s district calendar.

Hart has served LTUSD as a classroom teacher (K–6), district content area specialist and, most recently, assistant principal at South Tahoe High School. She previously taught Preppie-K/Kindergarten at the Meyers campus—experience she says makes the return feel like

“coming full circle.” “LTUSD is more than just my professional home—it’s where I’ve grown, led, and dedicated my life’s work to serving students, families, and staff,”

Hart said in a district-focused announcement carried by South Tahoe Now.

In an interview statement, Hart said her immediate priorities include meeting students and families, supporting teachers, and reinforcing campus culture.

“I’m excited to listen, learn, and lead with heart,” she said, adding that Meyers “has an incredible foundation”

she plans to build upon.

Meyers Elementary—formerly the Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School—reclaimed its original name in 2023 as LTUSD shifted back to neighborhood-based enrollment. The site remains focused on hands-on, outdoor and environmental learning.

Hart is the mother of two LTUSD graduates and credits district educators for shaping her sons’ journeys. She earned an associate degree from Lake Tahoe Community College, a bachelor’s in humanities with a psychology emphasis from Sierra Nevada College, and a master’s in educational administration from National University.

Meyers Elementary sits within the City of South Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County and operates under LTUSD’s four-elementary configuration alongside Bijou, Sierra House and Tahoe Valley.

What’s next: Hart said she’ll spend the opening weeks on relationship-building and campus readiness as families return. Parents can find districtwide start-of-school dates and campus links on LTUSD’s website.
