El Dorado County (April 19, 2024) – El Dorado County and Folsom to Review AKT Investments’ Senior Housing Proposal

In the corridors of power in El Dorado County and Folsom, the cogs of governance are set to turn as leaders prepare to scrutinize a bold proposal by AKT Investments, aiming to revolutionize senior living. Scheduled for April 23, both the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors and the Folsom City Council will commence discussions on AKT Investments’ ambitious plan: the Community for Health & Independence.

The brainchild of AKT Investments, spearheaded by spokesman Bill Romanelli, this visionary initiative seeks to address the burgeoning needs of housing, healthcare, and mobility for an expanding demographic. Romanelli underscores the proposal’s foundation in meticulous research and adherence to evidence-based practices gleaned from global exemplars, all while striving to redefine community design paradigms.

Stretching across a vast 2,800-acre swath south of Folsom’s current jurisdiction and spilling into southwestern El Dorado County, the Community for Health & Independence is poised to offer a holistic living experience. At its core lies a mix of approximately 8,000 housing units catering to diverse densities, incomes, and age cohorts, complemented by a sprawling 200-acre research complex and commercial zones tailored to support the community’s multifaceted requirements.

Romanelli elucidates the project’s ethos: fostering an integrated residential environment that champions aging in place, bolstered by cutting-edge technology and sustained observation. Central to this vision is the notion of empowering individuals to retain their autonomy within their homes, obviating the need for eventual relocation to conventional senior care facilities.

Emphasizing the project’s global ambitions, Romanelli envisions it as a beacon for progressive living arrangements on an international scale. Partnering in this endeavor is UC Davis Health, slated to assume a pivotal role in driving the research agenda forward. Steve Telliano, a spokesperson for UC Davis Health, delineates their involvement as offering expert insights into facilitating aging in place, with potential participation in the project’s implementation pending approval.

As the stage is set for deliberations, Telliano underscores the importance of community feedback in shaping the project’s trajectory. Romanelli echoes this sentiment, acknowledging that while the contours of the proposal will be refined through public input, the journey towards formal development remains a multi-year endeavor.

Moreover, the integration of the portion falling within Folsom’s purview necessitates a formal application to Sacramento County’s Local Agency Formation Commission—an administrative step yet to be undertaken, according to Romanelli.

As the countdown begins to the pivotal meetings next week, the Community for Health & Independence stands poised at the precipice of transformative change, awaiting the verdict of local authorities and the collective vision of the community it aspires to serve.
