South Tahoe (March 5, 2024) – In a proactive move to enhance community safety, South Tahoe Firefighters are encouraging residents to play a pivotal role in snow-clearing efforts around local fire hydrants. The incentive? A complimentary mug awaits those who take up the challenge.

With the looming threat of impending storms, South Tahoe Fire Rescue and Lake Valley Fire Protection District have embarked on a unique campaign, urging citizens to become hydrant heroes. The call is simple: adopt the nearest fire hydrant, shovel away the snow, and share a photo on social media tagging either South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue or Lake Valley Fire Protection District to claim a free mug.

Importance of Timely Action: In emergency situations, time is of the essence. A buried fire hydrant can significantly impede the rapid response of emergency officials, potentially affecting their ability to swiftly control and extinguish a fire. Lake Valley Fire emphasizes that clearing hydrants is not just a community service but a crucial step in saving firefighters precious time during critical moments.

Community Participation Guidelines: Residents are advised to clear a minimum of three feet around hydrants in close proximity to their homes. This community-driven initiative aims to create a safer environment for all, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between citizens and emergency services.

Where to Find More Information: For further details and guidelines on how to participate, residents can visit the official websites at lakevalleyfire.org or cityofslt.us.
