(Nov 13, 2024) — Bill Karr, a giant in outdoor journalism and a passionate advocate for California’s hunting and fishing communities, passed away at 78 on October 25, 2024, at his home in Placerville. Known for his pivotal role as the Northern California editor for Western Outdoor News (WON), Karr’s career spanned decades and brought outdoor writing and sportsman advocacy into focus across California and beyond.

Karr’s legacy is defined by his unwavering commitment to conservation and youth involvement in outdoor sports. He initiated programs like the “Youth Outdoor Fair” and “Shoot for the Future,” impacting over 400,000 youth and their families. These programs provided hands-on experiences that introduced children to the joys of fishing, hunting, and conservation, fostering a generational appreciation for the outdoors​
