PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado Unit has issued a full suspension of outdoor burning in state responsibility areas (SRAs) of El Dorado, Amador, Alpine, and Sacramento counties, effective at 12:00 a.m. Sunday, due to heightened wildfire risk under a Red Flag Warning.

According to the National Weather Service, gusty northwest winds up to 25 mph, combined with low humidity and warm temperatures, have created critical fire weather conditions expected to persist through Monday night. The burn suspension includes all burn permits issued for residential debris burning and other forms of open flame in designated SRA zones.

“With dry vegetation and gusty winds increasing fire danger, suspending outdoor burning is a necessary precaution,”

said Cal Fire Unit Chief Mike Blankenheim in a written statement.

“We urge residents to remain vigilant, eliminate fire hazards around their properties, and avoid any activities that could spark a wildfire.”

The current forecast for Sunday predicts sunny and warmer conditions with highs between 66 and 78 degrees and wind gusts reaching 25 mph. Monday will bring even warmer temperatures, ranging from 75 to 87 degrees, with continued gusty conditions. Overnight lows remain in the mid-50s.

Cal Fire emphasized that the suspension will remain in effect until conditions improve, and that any violations could result in civil or criminal penalties. Fire officials also reminded the public that equipment use, barbecues, and other heat sources can ignite fires during Red Flag conditions.

Residents are encouraged to follow updates through Cal Fire’s website at https://burnpermit.fire.ca.gov, and to sign up for local emergency alerts via El Dorado County’s emergency notification system.

For questions regarding burn permits or local restrictions, contact the Cal Fire Amador-El Dorado Unit at (530) 644-2345.
