INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (April 3, 2025) — A tragic accident at Diamond Peak Ski Resort claimed the life of 7-year-old Adelyn Grimes from Reno, Nevada, on March 29. The incident occurred around 3:38 p.m. near the base lodge when a large boulder became dislodged from the slope, striking the child. ​

Emergency responders, including the Diamond Peak Ski Patrol and the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, provided immediate medical assistance. Despite their efforts, Adelyn succumbed to injuries caused by blunt force trauma to her neck and chest. ​

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office stated that the accident was non-skiing related and confirmed no foul play was involved. The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death accidental.

Adelyn was a member of the Sugar Bowl race team and was attending the resort for an under-12 skiing championship. The Diamond Peak Ski Resort community has been deeply affected by the tragedy, offering counseling services to staff members. In a statement, the resort expressed heartfelt condolences to Adelyn’s family and the Lake Tahoe ski racing community. ​

A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by Adelyn’s aunt to support the family during this difficult time. The family expressed profound grief, stating,

“Our hearts are shattered.” ​

Diamond Peak Ski Resort is located approximately 30 miles south of Reno on the northeast edge of Lake Tahoe.
