PLACERVILLE, Calif. — A partnership between the Food Bank of El Dorado County and the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians is helping ensure older adults across the region have reliable access to nutritious food through the Elder Outreach Program.

The program serves income-eligible residents age 60 and older, providing two nutrient-dense food boxes every two months. Distributions are held on a bi-monthly schedule and reach seniors not only in El Dorado County, but also in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and Amador counties.

Local leaders say the initiative addresses a growing need among seniors living on fixed incomes, many of whom face rising food and housing costs. By prioritizing elder nutrition, the partnership aims to reduce food insecurity and support healthy aging in the community.

“Ensuring our elders have access to nutritious food is a responsibility we take seriously,” a spokesperson for the Food Bank of El Dorado County said. “Through this partnership, we’re able to reach seniors who might otherwise struggle to put healthy food on the table.”

Applicants must meet income guidelines to qualify. The Food Bank encourages seniors, caregivers and family members to inquire on behalf of eligible elders to ensure no one is overlooked.

For eligibility details or to learn how to apply, residents can contact the Food Bank of El Dorado County at (530) 621-9950. Additional information about distribution schedules and locations is available directly through the Food Bank.
